About Skin Peels

Before and After Pictures Acne

WHAT IS SKIN PEELING?

Light Peeling is a treatment designed to remove superficial layers of skin. It is used to help dry out active acne, dislodge blackheads, reduce shallow wrinkling and scarring, smooth and soften thick, coarse skin, lighten hyper pigmentation and improve the appearance and health of sun damaged, acne prone and aging skin.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A SKIN PEEL?
Men, Women, and adolescents will receive positive results from a skin peel.
HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE A SKIN PEEL?
Depending on your particular needs and desired results and the type of peeling used - you can peel your skin from once a week to once every six months. There is no limit in the number of peels a person can receive.

IS SKIN PEELING SAFE?
Absolutely - All ingredients are 100% safe and time tested. It is possible for an individual to be allergic to a particular peel, and that is why a patch test is always recommended.  Make sure your aesthetician that you choose to perform your peels is certified.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE A SKIN PEEL?
Anyone using Accutane (must be off Accutane for at least 2 months), Retin A (must be off Retin A for at least 2 weeks prior to a peel, unless otherwise directed), anyone with eczema, severe distended capillaries, aspirin allergy (for salicylic peels), or unrealistic expectations.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I AM ALLERGIC TO A SKIN PEEL?
A patch test is recommended, 1 week pre- peel. Rash, burning irritation and swelling are symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction.

IS THERE ANY PAIN DURING A PEELING PROCEDURE?
The Old adage "beauty doth suffer" must have been said by someone who received a skin peel! There is uncomfortable tingling to severe stinging for about 4-7 minutes, depending on the persons pain tolerance. (The results far outweigh the discomforts) Depending on the peel, after the procedure the skin will continue to feel warm, like a sunburn, for a few hours. This can be relived by spraying cool water on the skin.

CAN I WASH MY FACE OR WEAR MAKE UP?
There are specific instructions to follow with each type of skin peel. An instruction form will be given to you the day of your consultation. You may be asked not to wear make up from 24 hours to 7 days.
CAN I DO A SPOT PEEL?
It is recommended that the peel be used over the entire face to retain uniformity of the complexion. Spot peeling can be done under some conditions, consult your aesthetician.

WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE DURING THE PEELING?
Immediately following a peel your skin may be tight and slightly red. The intensity of the peel determines how the skin looks. In the most extreme cases (seven day chemical & Herbal peels) the skin becomes redder the second and third day and then begins to darken before it actually peels.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS OF A PEEL LAST?
There are never any guarantees as the the results of a peel. The skin will always feel and look smoother, softer and healthier. Again, depending on the peel, improvement will last anywhere from 1 month to 6 months. To maintain the results of any treatment, it is recommended that you come in monthly.

CAN I GO IN THE SUN?
You should not be exposed to the direct sun for 2 weeks and should always use a sun block with an SPF 15 or higher.

CAN A SKIN PEEL BE DONE ON OTHER AREAS OF THE BODY?
Yes. The neck, chest and back are easily and successfully treated with skin peels.

WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE MY PEEL A SUCCESS?
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!
Do not tear away loose skin (this can cause scarring) - do not expose yourself to sunlight. Always come back for the follow up visit.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO CONTINUE THE EFFECTS OF MY SKIN PEEL?
There are several excellent home care products that will help maintain the effects of your peel. This is discussed in your consultation and is determined by individual needs.

Skin Peeling is a safe, effective way to improve the health and appearance of your skin. The final step is an individual consultation to determine which skin peel is best suited for you.
